Prof. Decheng Wan

Biography:
Decheng Wan holds the position of Director of the Computational Hydrodynamics LAB (CMHL) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He is a Distinguished Professor of the Changjiang Scholars Program, a recipient of the Shanghai Eastern Scholar Tracking Program, a Principal Investigator for National Key Research and Development Programs, an Excellent Talent of the New Century supported by the Ministry of Education, an Outstanding Academic Leader in Shanghai, a Shanghai Pujiang Talent, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Strathclyde (UK), Zhejiang University, and Dalian University of Technology. His research endeavors have been dedicated to ship and ocean engineering hydrodynamics, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), hydrodynamic CAE software, extreme sea conditions and wave loads, fluid-structure interaction, vortex-induced vibrations (motions), turbulence simulation and flow noise, offshore wind power, and the performance of renewable energy devices. He also focuses on CFD- and machine learning-based hydrodynamic configuration and marine structure optimization, as well as the comprehensive performance prediction of marine structures leveraging big data, large-scale models, and artificial intelligence. Wan has authored more than 500 papers and secured over 50 patents and software copyrights. His pioneering contributions encompass advancements in CFD methods for ship and ocean engineering, numerical solutions for fluid-structure interaction, high-performance computing, and the development of numerical tank software. Recognized globally, he is listed among the World’s Top 2% of Scientists and has been honored as a Highly Cited Chinese Researcher by Elsevier. He has been awarded the First Prize of the Zhou Peiyuan Awards on Hydrodynamics, the CH Kim Award from the International Society of Offshore and Polar Engineers (ISOPE), the ISOPE Award, the International Moan-Faltinsen Best Paper Award, the Excellent Science and Technology Paper Award by the China Association for Science and Technology, and the Ocean Engineering Science and Technology Award by the China Association of Oceanic Engineering.
Currently, Wan serves in numerous esteemed positions, including President of ISOPE, Chairman of the ISOPE International Hydrodynamics Committee (IHC), Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Workshop on Ship Hydrodynamics (IWSH), member of the Advisory Committee (AC) of the International Towing Tank Conference (ITTC), member of the Steering Committee of the International Conference on Ship CFD, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the National Conference on CFD in Ship and Ocean Engineering, Vice Chairman of the Wind Power Structure Branch of the China Steel Construction Society (CSCS), Standing Committee Member of the Wind Disaster Mitigation and Wind Energy Utilization Professional Committee of the China Association for Engineering Construction Standardization (CECS), and Vice Chairman of the Design Academic Committee of the Shanghai Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SSNAME), among others. Additionally, Wan sits on the editorial boards of eight international journals, such as Ocean Engineering, Applied Ocean Research, and International Journal of Computational Methods. He also serves as an associate editor, executive editorial board member, or editorial board member for ten domestic journals, including the Journal of Hydrodynamics, The Ocean Engineering, and the Chinese Journal of Hydrodynamics. In his past roles, he has been Deputy Director of the Division of Research Management, Executive Deputy Director of the Advanced Technology and Equipment Research Institute, Deputy Director of the School of Ocean and Civil Engineering, Deputy Director of the Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, and Deputy Director of the Underwater Engineering Institute at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
